The postgraduate diploma programme is 12 months long and comprises an introductory module, eight compulsory core modules and seven specialist modules (of which you choose to study one). Each of the core modules give a thorough grounding in the core components of financial services law whilst referring to aspects and important points of law from all of the other modules.
The course is taught by the self-study of a comprehensive module manual and with students encouraged to read from specified case law and legal journals. There is a logical progression through a complex syllabus and students are given the opportunity to discuss theoretical issues as well as practical problem solving. Students are supported in undertaking online research using electronic law databases and are encouraged to use online legal resources. The course team will respond to student queries left on the forum promptly and will ensure that you feel well supported and engaged throughout your studies.
The course modules will be accessed through the online learning platform that will contain handbooks, web links, a discussion forum, and assessment criteria.The course is assessed entirely through coursework.

This internationally recognised qualification has been developed for those who wish to acquire expertise in financial services law. This is a rapidly growing area of law which includes financial compliance and regulation, global financial crime, regulation of the different areas of the finance industry, as well as data protection. It has been designed specifically for those working in, or wishing to enter the financial services fields; or for those with, or without legal backgrounds who wish to broaden their expertise and to understand better the legal issues arising in these areas. It therefore welcomes applicants from both legal and non-legal backgrounds who have the potential to benefit from the programme and includes an introductory module to English Law designed to assist those with no prior legal training.
Students who successfully complete the Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Services Law, Regulation and Compliance will have the option to carry their credits forward and top up to a London Metropolitan University Master of Laws (LLM) by distance learning. This LLM top up will consist of one research based module followed by a dissertation of between 12,000-15,000 words.
